UK-SG event on ‘Innovation in Energy Optimisation’

Together with Energy Systems Catapult UK, the Smart Urban Co-Innovation Lab (“the Lab”) hosted the inaugural UK-SG event on "Innovation in Energy Optimisation" on 17 Apr 2024. The event marked a pivotal moment in fostering cross-country collaborations towards addressing pressing sustainability challenges. In partnership with Singapore Science Park, Enterprise Singapore and British High Commission, the bilateral event spotlighted how innovators from both countries create an ecosystem of holistic solutions for energy and carbon emission reduction to occupants and buildings.
Mr Aylwin Tan, Chief Customer Solutions Officer from CapitaLand Investment and Director of the Lab, and Mr Andrew Stokes, International Business Lead from Energy Systems Catapult (ESC) UK, commenced the event acknowledging the collaborative efforts of the organizing partners. Aylwin emphasized CapitaLand’s core principles of innovation and highlighted the vision of establishing thematic parks to foster idea generation and innovation among businesses. Andrew shared ESC’s mission to shape future decarbonization energy systems and support growth of UK innovators/start-ups and highlighted the mutual benefit in international knowledge sharing and commercialisation opportunities.
The fireside chat that ensued delved deeper into co-innovation efforts, with a focus on how we might address energy consumption and carbon emissions in an ecosystem approach to "make money and save money". Discussions moderated by Mr Koon Kok Kwong, CTO of the Lab, underscored the importance of reducing energy consumption and loss while driving decarbonization. With innovators such as the speakers, he expressed how occupants and building owners can begin to chart out a more holistic approach to tackling sustainability with data exchanges. A huge thank you to the following speakers for their insightful sharing:

– Dr. Jonathan Siviter, Director of Thermoelectric Conversion Systems
– Mr Ben Harrington, Business Development Director of Ecocentric Energy
– Dr Lim Chee Chong, Director of Advancer Smart Technology
– Ms Lynette Lee, Founder of HUMA
The event concluded with networking and the innovators showcasing their solutions and fostering further collaboration among participants.
