02 Apr Reimagine Physical Recovery
Singaporeans are living longer with higher aspirations. We need to continue to provide sustainable healthcare needs and grow a strong local core amidst a shrinking workforce. We are privileged to have Gerald Ng from the Agency for Integrated Care and Prof Ang Wei Tech from Rehabilitation Research Institute of Singapore to discuss how we can help/motivate limb-affected persons (suffering from stroke, frailty, and fall) alleviate physical impediments in their rehabilitation journey towards normalcy from rehabilitation center to home to community.

From an administrative standpoint, Gerald shared the implementation of Gerontechnology for seniors in Singapore and highlighted the array of services offered by rehabilitation centres. He accentuated the increasing tech-savviness among seniors and the growing interest in leveraging technology to enhance support for aging individuals. He also stressed the importance of affordability and sustainable usage, urging a focus on achieving tangible returns on investment. The significance of effectively communicating clinical objectives to motivate limb-affected patients and their caregivers to adhere to therapy regimes is also emphasized.
Prof Ang expanded on the technological advancements aimed at addressing rehabilitation challenges. He elucidated on various innovative solutions, including automatic anomaly detection with neural networks; mobile robotic balance assistant and automatic assessment with AI-driven markerless motion capture. Prof Ang underscored the importance of integrating technology with services to optimize clinical outcomes and productivity. Furthermore, he emphasized the critical role of devising appropriate payment models to facilitate successful product deployment.
The event concluded with a heartfelt appreciation extended to the esteemed speakers for their unwavering commitment to sharing their expertise and insights.
